Sea glass beginner friendly sterling silver jewellery making course (2 spaces only) - 12th July at 6.30pm - 10.00pm
Suitable for complete beginners (even those that have never made jewellery before, worked with a torch or silver) and anyone over the age of 18. (We may accept responsible 15-17 year olds if accompanied by a parent or guardian).
In this exciting and highly detailed evening, you will learn to make jewellery like a professional silversmith.
The course starts with choosing your favourite piece of Scottish sea glass from our extensive collection (or feel free to bring your own!) and then shaping the glass if needed using a small hand held tool.
Next we will begin bezel wrapping with bezel strip and soldering the bezel to the correct shape and size. From there we will then solder the bezel onto silver sheet, learn about attaching jump rings, using a jewellers saw, tools, pickling, polishing, pin polishing and finally setting the sea glass in your new setting. This particular evening focuses on making one sea glass pendant in sterling silver. If time allows, you will also be taught granulation, hammering and other techniques.
This course is one on one orientated and we only allow 2 individuals at a time to maximise learning and safety.
Soft drinks, tea, coffee and nibbles will be provided. There is a bathroom on site.
Good to know:
As there will be butane torches, we don’t allow animals or anyone else in the room with you while the course is commencing (unless you are under 18).
It is ideal to begin the course on time and if the course spills over past 10pm before you finish your piece, don’t worry, we will wait for you to complete your piece.
If you worry that you have never made jewellery before, please don’t be concerned! Laura, the tutor for the evening will assist you in all aspects of the course which is friendly and informal.
If you have long hair, please have your hair tied back and wear short sleeves if possible.
If making a pendant isn’t you thing, you can make a ring or stud earrings instead.
The course will take place at our Glasgow shop.
There is no parking on site, but lots of parking available locally.
Once paid, the course is non refundable.
