The team behind in the heather - Meet Laura

Hi! My name's Laura and I create and design the jewellery here at In The Heather as well as serving all our amazing customers in our Glasgow boutique. I am a silversmith and resin artist and I love to create unique jewellery that stirs the imagination. I feel that in a world that has become so monotonous, my work is a creative escape for me and is something I look forward to everyday.

What I love most is taking time to be out in nature here in Scotland, searching for critters in rock pools, finding the best sea glass for our customers and being alone in the forest to see what I can find. Or what finds me.

I have a real passion for history and I like to incorporate this into what we make also. Every single piece of jewellery has a story, a history and a link to something overlooked or not widely known which I find fascinating.

My favourite places in Scotland are Dunure Beach, the peace garden at Barshaw park in Paisley, Wemyss Bay, Isle of Skye and Angus.

Thank you for supporting In The Heather and allowing our creative practices to continue!

The team behind in the heather - meet Paul the owner

Hi! I'm Paul and I am the owner here at In The Heather. I finish off the jewellery and polish to a high mirror shine as well as handle all the shipping. Like Laura, I also love to be out in nature but my real passion is mountains and the scenery here in Scotland. Glencoe never fails to take my breath away. II am also a musician and fine art painter and my work has been sold with Saachi Gallery. In The Heather is another creative outlet for me and I feel that in our beautiful Glasgow shop, where we make all our jewellery and skincare, it is a safe haven for me.

For me, I really wanted to create a brand that strayed far from the usual in terms of Scottish jewellery. In reality Scotland is very rarely tartan, bagpipes and celtic design. I always felt like I had a greater story to tell, something that was more authentic to me and my life and what I felt I had to say and find in life.

My favourite places in Scotland are Isle of Skye, Glencoe and Angus.

Thank you for supporting us, it really means the world to both of us! Without you we wouldn't be here.

Where does the name In The Heather come from?

In The Heather comes from a story you can read on our Rare Scottish Stories blog called "The Man In The Heather". In this very old Scottish story which we found in an antique Scottish book, a man lays face down in the heather and feels tiny hands of faeries rubbing a magical ointment on his eyes. When he stands up again and looks around, he can only see the good in the world. This is something we wanted for ourselves and we created something of a little world to work and live in inspired by this story.

Inspired by the wilderness of Scotland
