The Apothecary Ring | Teardrop Cobalt Scottish Sea Glass Ring In Sterling Silver With Sand Texture | UK Size S, US Size 9

This piece is an ultra rare Scottish sea glass find as cobalt, which was added during the glass making process to colour it blue, naturally makes the glass more brittle than others of its age (rest assured, this sea glass ring is absolutely perfectly strong for everyday use and will never shatter or break) - this is the reason that you may only find tiny pieces of cobalt blue sea glass on beaches and rarely larger pieces. This piece would have been from a Victorian era medicine bottle, particularly highly toxic and dangerous chemicals such as phosphorus, arsenic, mercury etc. 

These bottles usually had ribs or patterns so that they could be identified as a warning even in the dark. The bright cobalt colour also served as a warning - "not to be taken" was often on the glasswork too. At this period, all bottles were hand blown and then placed in a mould to get their signature writing.
