The colour of this tiny sea glass pebble is unmistakeable - its origins come from 1850's-early 1900's Victorian medicine/ poison bottles. It is likely this little piece came from the thicker bottom part of a bottle. The shocking colour of these bottles served as a warning and was easily identifiable to chemists and dispensers, even in the dark, with the superimposed lettering of "NOT TO BE TAKEN".

The bright colour of the sea glass comes from elemental cobalt which makes glass brittle, thus finding a nice pebble of cobalt, particularly in this shade, all the more rare and collectable. This explains why you rarely find big chunks of dark blue on the beach.

This item comes on one of our Scottish sea glass cards detailing where on a map of Scotland your sea glass was found, the history of Scottish sea glass and a colour rarity guide. A complimentary silver polishing cloth is also included.
