Tiny cobalt Scottish sea glass hammered ring in sterling silver - Size Q (UK), Size 8 (US)
The colour of this tiny sea glass pebble is unmistakeable - its origins come from 1800's-early 1900's Victorian medicine/ poison bottles. To form a chunk like this, it is likely this little piece came from the thicker bottom part of a bottle. The brightness/ shocking colour of these bottles served as a warning and was easily identifiable to chemists and dispensers.
The bright colour of the sea glass comes from elemental cobalt which makes glass brittle, thus finding a nice pebble of cobalt, particularly in this lighter and brighter shade, all the more rare and collectable. This explains why you rarely, if ever, find big chunks of dark blue on the beach.
